Collaborative sharing
Improving the sharing experience to enable collaboration

In brief

Role: Product Designer
Working closely with engineers, PMs, researchers, designers
Worked on the audit, concepts, wireframes, UI/UX
Company: Trint
Nov 2021 - January 2022
Problem statement
Current users are confused by the various options of sharing their work through the web app. This is a problem because it hinders the amount of in app collaboration leading to lower conversion rates along with a decrease in app usage.
Challenges

- The current share panel’s layout does not optimise space to support proper content and functionality

- Users are currently find their own workarounds for sharing because they’re not being properly signposted to all the sharing options

- Each feature has its own set of permissions causing inconsistencies throughout the experience

Hypothesis
Simplifying the sharing experience will increase in-app collaborative sharing and therefore contribute to viral growth

"I chose one of those options at random because as per usual it’s hard to know which option is the right one" - User feedback

Solution

- Transforming the panel into a modal

- Tabbed sections to delineate multiple ways of sharing

- Simplifying permissions for users to collaborate effortlessly

User research
I conducted multiple user testing sessions to understand why users preferred a certain modal in comparison to another.
Learnings

✅ Validated our assumptions that users do not read instructions

✅ Visually, users preferred the avatars in different colours

❌ Based on their workflows, some users don't have a need to share

How might we improve the way our users collaborate?

First designs
Understanding user pain points at the stage of the sharing experience where they feel overwhelmed with multiple options

Mapped out the current sharing experience where we allow users to collaborate, send a copy and publish all at the same time
The proposed assumptive user flow to surface recommended ways of sharing at certain stages of the user journey
Iterations
After conducting a competitor analysis, I designed 2 concepts to be used during user testing sessions. This allowed our team to understand what users preferred and the why behind their choice.
No items found.
Concept A uses vertical tabbed sections to support the content's hierarchy and encourage users to read the content
Concept B uses horizontal tabbed section, similar to the current design, however introduces team visibility and activation through colour

Results and
next steps

From this project, I was able to add value to the company through an audit by visualising the entire sharing experience. This allowed me to challenge what was happening internally to reduce friction for our users.
